The composite bonding process

  • Consultation at The Bonding Studio with patient and clinician discussing treatment

    1. Consultation and mock-up

The first step is a complimentary consultation.

    You may choose:

    1) an in-person mock-up, which is the most accurate way to visualise the proposed changes

    2) a personalised digital consultation from home

This appointment is used to understand your goals, assess suitability and discuss what composite bonding may be able to improve.

Where appropriate, a mock-up helps you preview the direction of treatment before making any decisions.

2: A clear plan and preparation

    Following consultation, you will receive:

    - photos of your smile mock-up

    - a detailed treatment plan

    - a transparent quote

There is no obligation to proceed.

If you decide to move forward, we may recommend a routine dental check-up and, in some cases, whitening before treatment.

    3. Treatment

Composite bonding is usually completed in a single appointment.

On the day of treatment, the teeth are carefully prepared, the bonding material is applied directly to the tooth surface, and each tooth is shaped and polished by hand. Local anaesthetic is rarely required.

The aim is a result that feels balanced, natural and in keeping with the surrounding teeth.

Treatment is typically comfortable and, because bonding is usually additive, removal of healthy enamel is often minimal or avoided altogether.

    4. Review and aftercare

A short review is usually scheduled 1 to 2 weeks later.

This allows us to check that everything has settled as expected and feels natural and comfortable.

Composite bonding is fully set at the time of placement, so there is no recovery period. Patients can usually return to normal activities straight away.

Any dental appliances (retainers, splints and whitening trays) may require updating after bonding.
